Alberto A. Lim
> Chairman, Corporate Network for Disaster Response

Bertie has worked in the interstices of business, government and civil society. The assassination of a prominent political figure in 1983 created new tracks in his multifaceted career. Then on a fast track as a professional business manager, he put his business career on hold for a few years to join the political movement that helped topple a tyrant. He co-founded three civil society institutions that supported political and social causes.

In 1990, he founded the Corporate Network for Disaster Response and continues to lead this unique corporate enterprise in Asia that mobilizes resources for victims of disasters and prepares local communities to mitigate the effects of natural hazards.

Bertie is currently the Executive Director of the Makati Business Club (MBC), an association that provides businessmen a forum for constuctive ideas and is involved in advocacy for economic reform and good governance. Among several initiatives it manages, MBC provides guidance and resources to the Coalition Against Corruption and the National Movement for Free Elections.

Anne Costello

Anne has over 15 years’ client-side and agency communications experience in Europe, Greater China, South Asia, India, Japan and Australia. She is responsible for Text 100’s operations and growth in South East Asia as well ensuring Text 100 Asia delivers the best total client experience in the industry. She manages Text 100’s relationship across Asia with IBM and leads a regional team of the agency’s most senior consultants.

She has extensive experience in external and internal communications, influencer relations, peer media engagement and crisis and issues management. She has consulted to IBM Asia Pacific, IBM Australia, IBM India and IBM Greater China, headed up Microsoft Asia Pacific’s corporate PR campaign, lead the PR launch of Microsoft Xbox in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea and Singapore and providing strategic consultancy to Coca-Cola Asia Pacific and Coca-Cola Japan.

Prior to her current role, Anne was Managing Consultant of Text 100 Hong Kong and a Practice Lead for Text 100 Australia. Previously she was General Manager of AUGUST.ONE Communications Hong Kong, a sister company to Text 100.

Before this, she spent 5 years in in-house roles as global communications manager for the smartcard division of De La Rue International and European PR and Marketing Communications Manager for financial software vendor SunSystems. Prior to these assignments, Anne began her communications career at Text 100 UK.

Chow Keng Fong

Chow Keng Fong is an Assistant Vice President and the Business Continuity Manager with Merrill Lynch Global Services. She is responsible the organisation’s BCM programmes in a few countries in Asia.

Keng Fong is no stranger to BCP. She has over seven years of industry experience in business continuity management. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch, she was managing the BCM programmes for a global investment bank in various markets in South-Southeast Asia.

Keng Fong has a Masters of Business (Information Technology) and was conferred the Masters in Business Continuity Planning (MBCP) by DRI International in 2006.

Henry Ee is the founder and director of Business Continuity Planning Asia (BCP Asia). In the profession of business continuity for more than 10 years, Henry has been contributing to the industry’s wider understanding in business continuity. He is active on the conference circuit and organizing and/or conducting training in the area of Business Impact Analysis, Risk Analysis, Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery and Crisis Management.

Apart from training, Henry also acts as a consultant to assist companies to conduct Business Process change management, Business Impact Analysis and Risk Analysis. Currently, he is an elected BCI Board member. He is also an officially appointed auditor by SPRING Singapore and a member with IDA BCM workgroup committee.

In 2003, Henry was involved in setting up BCM standard for SPRING Singapore. Henry also served as the Vice President of Business Continuity Group (BCG) with Singapore Computer Society in 2000.

Prior to setting up BCP Asia, Henry had held senior positions in 2 international banks where he headed the project management and Business Continuity Program.

Janice Lua

JC Sekar
> General Manager, Management Systems Registration Services for UL’s Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa operations

JC Sekar has a Masters Degree in Aerospace from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology in India. His initial work experience has been in the Military Aerospace Industry and Heavy Engineering Industry for around a decade. During this period, he worked extensively in the areas of Project Management, Facility Planning, Technology Development, Technology Transfer, Computerization, Supply Chain Management & deployment of Quality Systems. Subsequently, he worked in a reputed consulting company and was involved in training and consulting assignments with a large number of organizations primarily in the Engineering and Services sector.

Currently, JC is based in Singapore and responsible for overseeing the growth and delivery of Systems Registration Services for UL customers in the region. This service spans across various industries with primary focus on Automotive, Aerospace, Electrical, Electronics, Chemicals and Plastics. JC is also responsible for UL’s Global New Product Development efforts in the area of Business Management Systems. Over the past 5 years JC has spent considerable time and effort on UL’s expansion in China and UL’s entry into new service offerings such as eSCM best practice model for the ITES industry and other offerings for the industry including ISMS, IT Service Management and Business Continuity Management. In this role, he has had a very close interaction with Carnegie Mellon University and with IT and IT Enabled Service providers across the globe. As a Certified Lead Evaluator for the eSCM model of Carnegie Mellon University, JC has led teams performing assessments at in-house and third party ITES service providers on all aspects of outsourcing with emphasis on Information Security, IT Service Management and Business Continuity Management.

Kenny Seow, CBCP

Kenny Seow has over 17 years of experience of international experience in disaster recovery, business continuity and crisis management in the banking, securities, logistics and public services sectors.

He currently works as an independent consultant with RiskCover in the Government of Western Australia, providing business continuity support, training and advisory services to a variety of government agencies and departments. He also played an instrumental role in writing the Western Australian Government’s BCM Guidelines that was published in January 2007.

Kenny speaks regularly at seminars and conferences, and has presented papers on business continuity in the United States, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and Australia. He has also been invited to share his views on pandemic planning at events hosted by the International Monetary Fund, the Center for Bio-security (University of Pittsburg Medical Centre) & Contingency Planning Exchange Inc. (New York), the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Business Advisory Council and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority.

Lyndon Bird, MSc, FBCI, FRSA, MIoD

Lyndon Bird has been closely involved with the growth of Business Continuity Management since 1986. He was an elected Board Member of the BCI for 6 years including nearly 3 years as Chairman. He has also chaired the important BCI Education and Audit Committees. He was a member of the BSI Technical Committee for the development of BS25999-1 and regularly speaks on this subject and other BCM topics internationally.

Lyndon has worked exclusively in Business Continuity since 1986 and has published nearly 150 articles on the subject and contributed major sections to a number of authoritative books. His opinion is regularly sought by news organisations such as the BBC, Financial Times and leading business journals. He has recently spoken at and chaired major BCM events throughout the world including Australia, Russia, India, Canada, South Africa and Japan.

He was voted Business Continuity Consultant of the Year in 2002 at the BCI Awards and given the prestigious BCM Lifetime Award in 2004.

Mohamed Anwar

Mohamed Anwar is a former senior fire officer with the Singapore Fire Service and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) for over ten years (1980 to 1990). He has served as OC of Alexandra fire station and a deputy commander of West division responsible for the command of three fire stations in the West Side of Singapore.

He resigned from the service and joined the Singapore Airlines Limited (SIA) as a fire safety trainer for over nine years (1990 to 1999). He is a certified trainer by the Civil Aviation Authorities of Singapore (CAAS) to train the technical/cockpit crew and cabin crew of the Singapore Airline (SIA) and Silk Air on the in-flight/cabin fire safety.

He has been actively involved in conducting fire safety trainings for many industrial companies and commercial high rise buildings in Singapore under the Accreditation Training Institution Scheme by Singapore Civil Defence Force, Civil Defence Academy. He conducted training courses such as fire safety awareness course, fire fighting course for emergency response team (Process Plants)/(Buildings), Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) training, HAZMAT transport driver course and chemical spill response course.

He is currently with the Suntec City Management as Assistant Manager of Crisis Management and Security Services Department. He is responsible for the crisis management, fire safety, security, crime prevention, workplace safety and health activities and the business continuity management for Suntec City.


Peter Sierwald, MBCI

Peter Sierwald is an experienced consulting professional and former director at Deloitte. He is a subject matter expert in risk management and business continuity management, with a career spanning over 14 years, focusing solely on these areas.

Peter has comprehensive public and private sector risk and business continuity experience, working with some of the largest global financial organisations, federal and state government departments and agencies.

His experience is based on real life practice; Peter started his career in risk and business continuity management in the United Kingdom in 1993, the same year as an IRA bomb devastated the City of London. His ‘baptism of fire’ into the industry continued in February 1994 when two of Peter’s clients were impacted by the London Dockland’s bomb. In June 1996 another client called for assistance after the IRA’s Manchester bomb destroyed their office and a simultaneous bomb alert denied them access to their alternative site.

He continued his career in Germany from 1996, where he was closely involved in the establishment of Germany’s first Business Recovery Centre, fully equipped as an emergency office for banking and finance clients. This centre was put to the test in the weeks following the September 11th terrorist attacks in the United States, as multiple clients invoked the facility in preparation for increased activity in European financial markets.

Samuel Manasseh

Samuel is the Senior General Manager, Head of Group Risk Management in PT Astra International. He is responsible for the implementation of risk management, which encompasses risk and control self assessment, establishment of Business Continuity Plan, implementation of supply chain risk management, risk financing strategy in all of Astra’s Operating Divisions and throughout the Group.

Before his current appointment, Samuel headed the Finance Division and Corporate Risk Management concurrently, in PT Astra Honda Motor, from 1995. He was involved in business restructuring, formulating financing strategy, and was instrumental in completing group loan restructuring during the late 1990s crisis in establishing risk management function.

Samuel has been invited as guest speakers in various academics forums as well as corporate functions on issues such as Development of Motorcycle Industry, Implementation of Risk Management, Good Corporate Governance and others.

Samuel has a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a Masters degree in Business Administration.

Stephen Tan, CBCP

During his thirty two years career at IBM, Stephen held various positions in service delivery operations, including Data Centre Operations, Computing Centre Services, Field Administration, Country Systems Assurance and Business Resiliency and Continuity Services (BRCS) in IBM Singapore.

Stephen was responsible for establishing the IBM Business Recovery Centre for Mid Range Systems in 1991 and thereafter the IBM Business Recovery Centre for Large Systems in 1992.

Being Project Manager and Consultant for Business Continuity Offerings, he was involved in engagements e.g. the development and documentation of IT and Business Recovery and Continuity Plans for over 50 IBM customers on multiple platforms - IBM and OEMs, among them several large banking and financial institutions, several manufacturing and distribution establishments, two Power plants, a cluster of hospitals and clinics, all the 33 Singapore Exchange’s Stockbrokers, some Government Ministries and a Statutory Board. He also performed Risk Assessment, Business Impact Analysis and Recovery Strategy engagements for a Regional Call Centre, a Global Data Centre for a multinational bank, an Overseas Steel Manufacturing Plant and a Shipyard with worldwide operations.

He is currently responsible for consulting with clients in the areas of Business Continuity and Recovery Services.

Tony Ridley

International SOS

As the Regional Security Director for Asia Pacific, Tony is responsible for International SOS’ corporate and commercial security services to clients around the world. Since joining the company’s Global Security Team, he has directed and delivered a variety of security projects from risk assessments, specialised training, simulation scenarios, policy and procedure development and security evacuation operations. Successful solutions were implemented to clients in numerous commercial and government sectors in demanding and challenging locations.

Often called upon, he has presented to hundreds of corporate clients, professional bodies and organisations, along with interviews with print and television media on a diverse array of technical security issues.

Prior to joining International SOS, Tony spent five years in a wide variety of security and business support roles. Managing the operational demands of a 3,500 man security company across Indonesia, protective security operations for government personnel within Iraq, and both public and private companies with at risk assets within Indonesia, Tony delivered positive results and financial benefit to clients, shareholders and staff.

Tony holds diplomas on Security Operations Management and Search and Rescue together with advanced linguistics. He is an active member in various professional associations.

Vijay Kumar Magan

Mr. Magan has 40 years of experience in Operations, Project, Quality, Business Excellence and General Management in reputed companies in India and Abroad (Hindustan Lever, Unilever, Johnson & Johnson, Boots, RPG, DNV and BSI) in senior capacities of General Manager /Director/ Vice President / Sr. Vice President.

Mr. Magan was a Member of Institute of Engineers, American Society for Quality and National Centre for Quality Management. He has satisfactorily completed ISO 9000:2000 QMS, ISO 14000 EMS , OHSAS 18000,HACCP, IQRS, CSR & CE Marking Lead Auditors’ Courses. He is lead assessor for both IMCRBNQA and CII Quality Awards. Further he has completed specialized training on Six Sigma, TQM, TPM and World Class Manufacturing. He has conducted several training programmes for various Chambers of Commerce, Corporate and Institutes. He has lead Process Improvement Group of IMCRBNQA as member of Frontier Technology & Quality Improvement Committee. He was also on the Program Committee of NCQM.

Mr. Magan is currently working with British Standard Management System as Sr. Vice President & Lead Auditor/ Assessor for QMS, EMS, OHSAS, HACCP, IQRS, CE Marking, BS25999 and Business Risk Assessment. As on date he has carried out over 1000 audits and assessments in India, Middle East, South-East Asia, Japan and Australia.

Wilson Tan Hai Guan

Wilson Tan has been in the telecoms industry for more than 10 years and currently manages the portfolio of biz development in SingTel.

He is in-charge of driving industry development by working with vendors to develop various industry eco-systems. One such focus is in the area of business continuity planning and mgmt. His past work includes developing solutions to allow employees to telecommute, producing BCP white papers and speaking engagements to various countries like India, HK, Australia and his recent visit to Indonesia to engage Jakarta banks on the importance of being prepared in a pandemic outbreak.

Wilson provides the perspective from a technology application viewpoint to share tips on how to be equipped and harness the clever use of technology. Before to joining SingTel, Wilson was a Singapore based telecoms consultant working for the Strategies Group that is headquartered in Washington DC.

He holds a Masters in Economics and used to be lecturing Econs at the University of Wollongong, Australia prior to moving back to Singapore.

Tew Kiat is the Senior Manager for the Business Recovery Centre in Singapore Computer Systems Limited (SCS). He manages the following teams: Disaster Recovery (DR) & Business Continuity Management (BCM) Consultancy, Disaster Recovery, Sales and Operations.

Tew Kiat is currently the President for the Singapore Business Continuity Group (BCG), a Tech Industry Chapter of the Singapore Computer Society. In China, Tew Kiat has been invited by the China Business Continuity Management (CBCM) of the China Federation of IT Promotion (CFIP) as their Senior Consultant to develop DR/BC Standards and rolling DR/BC Awareness and Training Education.

His professional experience includes business continuity consultancy to financial institutions, beverage companies, insurance companies and manufacturing firms. He has also spent more than 6 years providing Disaster Recovery Project Management, which has led to the development and implementation of a full disaster recovery planning and documentation for more than 30 customers.

Over the years, Tew Kiat has assisted nine customers to recover from “LIVE” disasters and supported 16 customers through the “SARS” precautionary activation during the SARS period in 2003.

Tew Kiat is a frequent speaker at BCP conferences in Singapore, China and Malaysia.
